Fiery orange nails with OPI Deutsch You Want Me Baby? (Plus a FOTD!)

As recently promised, I'm bringing you another polish from the Fall 2012 OPI Germany collection!  This is Deutsch You Want Me Baby? and I think it's the perfect Fall color.

Of course, not like it has to be Fall for me to wear a glowy orange on my tips!

This dries very true to bottle but it does show brush marks easily.  Mine has some pretty visible stripes so you need to keep your hand steady when painting this one on your nails.

This reminds me of a glowing fire or the leaves of a tree changing color.  I think this would look really nice with a silver glitter on top, or maybe even a red glitter.

You can see my brush stroke veering off to the right on my middle finger.  Ignore the sloppy job - I was just wanting to swatch this color but it's not my final destination for the night!

I have a review for the Anastasia Beverly Hills Want You To Want Me palette coming up later this week but I played around with some of the pieces and thought I'd share my FOTD today!

Liquid eyeliners will be the death of me - how do they work?!  I wish I could get the hang of them, but for now I'll take this rather shoddy cat eye look.

I layered Members Only and Graphic T's as my two shadows for a nice, matte look which would make the liquid liner pop.

I decided to do a dramatic lip because why not?  I thought about adding some gloss but I watched "Titanic" last night and was super-obsessed with Kate Winslet's matte lips throughout.  I update the look by using matte pink.

Here's what I used:
- Neutrogena Shine Control Primer
- Make Up For Ever HD Foundation in N117
- Olay Fresh Effects BB Cream in Fair to Light (as an undereye concealer)
- tarte Smooth Operator Amazonian Clay Finishing Powder
- tarte Amazonian Clay 12-hour Blush in Adventurous
- Lorac TANtalizer Baked Bronzer
Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler
- Urban Decay Primer Potion
- Anastasia Beverly Hills eyeshadows in Members Only and Graphic T's
- Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid eyeliner in Jet
L'Oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions mascara (not pictured)
- Anastasia Beverly Hills clear brow gel
- Kat Von D Everlasting Love Liquid Lipstick in Berlin

Get Shocking Extensions with L'Oreal Telescopic

Please excuse me for being so absent lately!  Like I said before, I was sick as a dog starting on January 1.  What fun it is to start the new year with a big, huge cold!  When you're ill, makeup loses some of its appeal.

Anyway, on to one of my new obsessions!

I hardly ever purchase drugstore makeup - I seriously only use Maybelline Great Lash.  So I went out on a limb to purchase L'Oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions mascara on the recommendation of the Muse from Musings of a Muse.

She said that this delivers length and maintains curl while not providing a terrible amount of volume.  I would say that's really accurate!  I wanted something for length so I could pair it up with a volumizing mascara for super drama!

I picked up the waterproof formula but I might just go back for the regular formula, too!

The brush on this is really nice.  L'Oreal claims that there are 200 bristles (not that I've cared to count!) to help grab all your lashes.  I would say you definitely need to curl your lashes for the best results.

I think it's adorable the that tube actually looks like a telescope - so nifty!  I'm so pleased with this mascara - zero flaking, fading, or smudging.

It's definitely not going to give you volume, but it will maintain your curl all day and wing your lashes out to baby-doll like proportions.  My favorite way to wear it?  On top of tarte primer and mascara for truly incredible drama!

I don't have any comparison pics but I promise to update ASAP!

On a different note - what have I been up to since dropping off the map for foreverrrrr?  Well, I was off work due to my cold so I managed to watch all the episodes of Sherlock.  So amazing!  Seriously, if you haven't seen it, watch it ASAP!

Of course, watching Sherlock led me to the wonderful world of "Wholock" on Pinterest.  (Doctor Who + Sherlock = Wholock)  Also, there's some very twee Harry Potter / Sherlock mashups like this:

Adorableeeee!  I don't own this picture but if someone knows who to credit it to, please let me know!

Anyway, pick up this mascara for about $10 in drugstores.  (I would post a link for you but I can't find any sites where this is reasonably priced.)  Also, make sure to watch Sherlock and Doctor Who on Netflix!

XOXO

There's nothing tempting about this Temptress' Kiss

I've already shown you the L'Oreal and Project Runway collaboration lip glosses that I picked up but today I wanted to share with you the lipstick I grabbed.

This is The Temptress' Kiss and it's a good Fall color (although we're well past that now).  I feel like the stores around me are always so late in putting out product that we're already on to the next season.

This shade is a vampy burgundy/plum color and I've been wanting to add a shade like this to my stash for forever.

Unfortunately, the color isn't as opaque as I'd hoped, as you can see from these swatch photos.  I had to run the bullet over my arm several times to get the opacity you see here:

You may be wondering why I don't have lip swatches...well...I couldn't stand the smell.  Seriously, this smells like burning plastic and chemicals.  When I applied it, I thought I might literally be sick.  I decided to test it anyway but had to remove it after about 45 minutes because I kept gagging at the smell.

I gifted this to my sister because she loves to wear lip colors like this.  I warned her about the smell but she opened it and sniffed it and said it didn't bother her at all.  Weird!  I'm not super sensitive to fragrances but this was just a big no for me.

In the short time that I wore it, I found it to be very drying.  Considering that I had it on for less than an hour and it dried my lips, I'd say that's a pretty bad sign.

Add together the foul smell, poor color payoff, and drying property and this is a dud.  My sister seems to like it so I'm glad it works for someone!

You can find this in most drugstores or online HERE for $6.26.

What's in my purse?!

Today I just wasn't feeling the writing bug so I thought it would be really fun to film a "What's in my purse?" video!  You can find these all over YouTube and I think they're a lot of fun.  I always love seeing what people have in their purses.

Here are the products I mentioned that I've reviewed:

Maybelline Color Sensational High Shine Gloss in Captivating Coral
- MAC Fashion Nomad mattene
L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Gloss in The Queen's Shine
- tarte Maracuja Lip Gloss in Heath
L'Oreal Paris Infallible Le Gloss in Sparkle Frenzy

I hope you enjoyed my video!  Let me know what's always in your purse!

XOXO

Get your Shine on with the Queen, the Mystic, and the Muse!

One of my favorite high school memories is going over to my BFF Travis's house each week senior year to watch Project Runway and work on our vocabulary words!  So I do have a sweet spot in my heart for Project Runway, even though I don't watch it religiously now.

So when Project Runway teamed up with L'Oreal to create a range of products, I knew I wanted some.

They took a creative route and created four "mini-collections" in one big collection.  The products are divided up into The Artsy Muse, The Enchanted Queen, The Seductive Temptress, and The Wise Mystic.

I grabbed up L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Gloss in The Queen's Shine, The Mystic's Shine, and The Muse's Shine (Sorry Temptress!  Lol).
L-R The Queen's Shine, The Mystic's Shine, The Muse's Shine
The Mystic's Shine and The Muse's Shine are really more for layering, as you can see in the pictures below.  (I used The Muse's Shine in this FOTD.)

The Queen's Shine
The first shade looks like a deep burgundy in the tube but unfortunately, it translates to a more vivid, bright pink on lips.  I was really hoping for a darker color so this was a bit disappointing.

The Mystic's Shine
The next shade is a sheer, shimmery, lilac color.  This would look great over berry hues!  It makes my lips look a bit lifeless on its own.

The Muse's Shine
This is a shimmery gold color which will look great over reds and maybe hot pinks.  This is also a layering shade.

Overall, these shades are nice for layering; however, they aren't great on their own.  I wish The Queen's Shine was more true-to-tube.

Do you need these?  Well, The Muse's Shine is great for layering over reds but I might skip the other two.

I found mine in Target for $5.99 each.  They're limited edition, so snatch 'em quick!

Get gold and red holiday lips in three easy steps!

Red lips are big for the holidays but what's even bigger?  Red and gold lips!  Yes, gold sparkles on red lips are super awesome.

So today I wanted to show you a quick FOTD using three products:

L'Oreal Infallible Le Gloss in The Muse's Shine

Ok, let's get started!  Start with bare, clean lips.

Next, line your lips with the lipliner.

Next, use the mattene to fill in your lips.

Finally, add that super awesome gloss on top.

Voila!  Now you have a super awesome lip look to wear to all your holiday parties.

The great thing is you can pair sparkly red lips with almost any eye look:  black smokey, black cat-eye, shimmery gold, or nude matte.  I used a beautiful gold on the lid and a darkened gold in the crease (Urban Decay Half Baked and Urban Decay Smog).

Of course, this is a really subdued eye look but I would amp is up for night-time gatherings.

A perfectly pretty pout for 8 hours with Sparkle Frenzy!

Y'all know I don't like to get overly dramatic about makeup but today I'm making an exception.  This might just be the best lipgloss I've ever owned!

It's the new L'Oreal Paris Infallible Le Gloss in Sparkle Frenzy.  This lipgloss promises eight hours of coverage - but does it deliver?

Yes!  This lipgloss provides soft, cushy coverage that stays in place without slipping or sliding around.  I find that I get some on my teeth at the very beginning but it doesn't bleed out around the edges of my lips.

Plus, the color stays wearing strong for the eight hours claimed by the packaging!  I hate when companies make unrealistic claims about wear time but this one seriously amazes me.  I put it on at 7:30 in the morning and don't touch it up until around 3:30.  Yes, it lasts through lunch!

The applicator takes some getting used to as it's very large; however, it does taper down to a point, so you can get pretty precise around the edges of your lips.

The color is phenomenal!  I'd say it's a little bit redder in person than it shows in this swatches.  This is a semi-opaque red with red and gold shimmer.  The name "Sparkle Frenzy" is pretty apt, so if you're not down with shimmer you might want to skip this.

I am amazed by the wear time on this baby and the beautiful color.  This color is so me and I find myself reaching for this gloss over and over again.

I picked mine up at Walgreens where they're priced for $9.99.  The display was marked as $5.99 by accident so the clerk actually let me have it for $5.99!  Sweet!  I can't find this online anywhere yet but you can find displays popping up in drugstores.

Reader Question: Budget Blushes

Today I have a reader question that came from my sister!  She sent me a text with a picture of her Maybelline Great Lash Lots of Lashes tube saying that she had picked it up (on my recommendation) and was loving both the mascara and the Baby Lips.  Sweet!  Then she sent me a follow up text:

“I need a recommendation for a good, reasonably priced blush, please :) ”

Sure thing, sis!  Now, I’m going to admit that I haven’t tried any of these out yet myself BUT I do read a lot of beauty blogs and these blushes pop up all over.  Blush is one of the few things that I’ve always stuck to high-end for, but I’m getting interested in some of these budget options!  So, here are my picks for budget blushes!

Jordana Color Tint Blush Stick - $2.99 (Buy here)
Photo taken from Jordana's website

Stick blushes are all the rage right now.  You simply swipe them on and blend them out with your fingertips.  (Of course, be careful if you also use powder.  You’ll want to put these on before powder application.)  These are a STEAL at $2.99.  I’m actually about to order almost all of them!  You can only get them on Jordana’s website but let’s all pray to the makeup gods that they’ll be available in drugstores soon, mmkay?!

Milani Baked Bronzer - $7.99 (Buy here)
Photo taken from Milani's website

Oh, Milani.  I love your lipsticks and your nail polishes – I can’t tell you how much you tempt me with these baked bronzers.  (You say bronzers…but let’s just admit that you are a blush!)  These remind me so much of the super-expensive blushes that just came out in the MAC Heavenly Creatures collection.  I just couldn’t make myself spring for those, but I think I may have to have one of these to satisfy the craving!
Milani Baked Blush in Fantastico

Look at that purple-y color!  Wowza!

Milani Powder Mosaics Bronzer and Brightener - $7.99 (Buy here)

Photo taken from Milani's website

Another pretty from Milani.  These are lovely, but they don’t excite me as much as the Baked Bronzers.  These are another blush option that won’t break the bank.

L’Oreal Paris Project Runway Blush - $8.57 (Buy here)

Photo taken from Walmart's website

The Muse (from Musings of a Muse) raves about the Project Runway Blushes.  They are part of the Fall offerings coming up so keep your eye peeled for them at Wal-Mart and other drugstore-type places.  I know this link only shows you one blush, but I promise that there are new and exciting ones coming out for Fall.  I’ve seen pictures on other blogs but can’t seem to find any promotional images.  I’ll update y’all if I find something.

e.l.f. Studio Blush - $3 (Buy here)
Photo taken from e.l.f.'s website

Blush for $3?  I’ll take it.  The great thing about having a cheap blush is that you can afford to keep one at home and take one in your purse.  That way you can do touch-ups on the road.  I’ve heard good things about these babies and I like the color selection!  {EDIT:  My sister ordered three of these!}

The Balm Frat Boy - $21 (Buy here or find it on sale for dirt cheap at T.J. MAXX)

Photo taken from The Balm's website

Here’s my final pick.  I know you’re looking at the price tag going, “Girl, you said BUDGET blushes!”  Well, let me tell you that I’ve seen The Balm products at T.J. Maxx for much cheaper!  So, if you have a T.J. Maxx nearby, you should definitely cruise the makeup aisle to see what’s hiding there.  I have wanted to buy The Balm products there so many times but always make myself resist.  However, Frat Boy is just so beautiful and I love the packaging!  If I saw it there, I’d nab it.

I hope that helps and gets you thinking about some budget options for your stash!  What blush colors do you tend to like?  Baby pink?  Fuchsia?  Coral?  Red?  Do tell!

XOXO

Will you find a match with L'Oréal Lumi?

One of my biggest hesitations with drugstore foundations is the risk of missing your color match.  There is nothing more frustrating than picking up a bottle of foundation only to get it home and realize it is SO WRONG for your skin.  This is made worse by the fact that you can't return it.  Bummer.

So how much am I loving this sample-stuffed display of the new L'Oréal Paris True Match Lumi Healthy Luminous Makeup?!

(Sorry the pictures are sub-par - I had to use my phone's camera.  You can click on each picture to make it larger.)

The new makeup comes in 15 shades:  five warm, five neutral, and five cool shades.  Walgreens has these for $12.99 for 1 fl oz.  There should be something for most people to love here.  Darker-skinned ladies may have some problems, unfortunately.

Check out the swatches:

Top row (Warms):  W1-2 Porcelain/Light Ivory, W3 Nude Beige, W4 Natural Beige, W5 Sand Beige, W6 Sun Beige
Middle row (Neutrals):  N1-2 Soft Ivory/Classic Ivory, N3 Natural Buff, N4 Buff Beige, N5 True Beige, N7-8 Classic Tan/Cappuccino
Bottom row (Cools):  C3 Creamy Natural, C4 Shell Beige, C5 Classic Beige, C6 Soft Sable, C7-8 Nut Brown/Cocoa

To the right of the 15 swatches is a swatch of the new L'Oréal Magic Skin Beautifier BB Cream in Light ($10.99 for 1 fl oz).  It's crazy!  It starts out white with gray grit in it.  Then, as you rub it into your skin it starts to release the color.  This swatch is quite heavy and I'd say it looks a little pinker in person.  I'm afraid it would be too dark on my face.

Plus, let us all remember that American BB creams are muuuuuch more like tinted moisturizers than actual Korean BB creams.  If you are a newbie to BB creams, please spend some time researching the ah-mahzing blog Musings of a Muse.  She has fabulous reviews of ALL KINDS of BB creams HERE.

I promise that I'll review two Skin 79 BB creams ASAP but for now, rely on the Muse!

Will you be trying out the new L'Oréal samples?  Do you see a color that could work for you?  Have any experience with BB creams?

XOXO
