Black + Pink = ....Purple?! It's true with today's EOTD!

So last night in a fit of desperate creativity, I decided to start working on some dramatic eye looks.  Sure, everyone can love a shimmery gold or matte beige but what should you do about that electric hot pink eyeshadow?  I'm on a quest to develop some stunning looks that are definitely not office appropriate.

So, here's a little math lesson for you!  Black + hot pink = purple!  I had first read this on Makeup and Beauty Blog so I finally decided to try it!

Here's what I came up with:

My camera doesn't do it justice but it looked much more dramatic in person.  Here it is with different lighting:

I wish I had step by step instructions to show you what I did, but here's what I used:
Urban Decay 15 Year Anniversary palette, Essence pigment in Alice Had a Vision - Again,
and Urban Decay 24/7 Eye Liner in Perversion

I used the following shades:  Junkshow, Blackout, Deep End, Vanilla, and Omen.  (For those keeping track - that's the matte black, hot pink, shimmery purple, turquoise, and shimmery pale yellow.)

I love Urban Decay 24/7 eyeliners - they are the most fantastic thing ever invented in the makeup world!

This Essence pigment is so incredibly beautiful and was super cheap - I can't remember how much but I'm pretty sure it was about $3.

You have to love the matte, super-black line that Perversion gives!

Alice Had a Vision - Again with flash
So what did I do?  After applying a primer I applied Blackout all over my lids.  Next, I layered Junkshow on top to create that gorgeous purple.  Then, I lined my lids and waterline with Perversion and used a smudger brush to blend it out.  (I applied Alice Had a Vision - Again over the liner for more drama!)  I used a crease brush to blend Junkshow up to a little bit below my browbone.  Then I used Omen under my eyes and a tiny bit of Deep End on the outer V of my lid.  A tiny bit of Vanilla on the inner corner of my lid plus some Junkshow in the inner corner.  Voila!  Not too difficult!

I love this look and plan to make it even more dramatic next time!

XOXO

Am I in a Purple Haze over this Urban Decay shadow's color?

Sephora finally put the discontinued Urban Decay shadows on sale (woot!) so you know I had to snap up a shade I had been eyeing for a while.

That would be Purple Haze!  Sephora describes it as "matte bright purple" but I'm a little confused about the pan I got...

Check out Temptalia's review of Purple Haze HERE.  Her swatches actually show a bright, matte grape kind of color.

Unfortunately, mine doesn't look anything like her swatches.  The label on the back of mine also seems to be a different color than her label.  Of course, this color is nice, but it isn't anything like what I was really hoping for from Purple Haze.

I actually really think my pan looks like Cult, which is described as "matte muted purple."  Look at Sephora's picture to see what I mean:

See how much more my swatch looks like Cult?

It's ok, though - I do like this color.  Plus, it's the great quality we've come to expect from Urban Decay.  Unfortunately, I just don't feel like it's the right color.

Looks like Sephora is all sold out of their sale eyeshadows but you might be able to grab some in stores.  They're only $6 right now!

Purples and neutrals, oh my! I finally cure my Tarina Tarantino lemming

I have had my eye on this Tarina Tarantino palettes for about a year now but I always felt $32 was far too much for it.  So you know I had to grab is when it went on sale for $20!

Sadly, Tarina Tarantino is leaving Sephora but you can still grab some of the pieces online or in stores.

The colors in this palette look fabulous and they prove to be "Fantastical," too!

The design is really cute but I do wish this included some sort of brush.  However, I can make do without one.

The eyeshadows are dense, buttery, and highly pigmented.  I really couldn't ask more from the formula on these.  The shadows are vibrant and last incredibly well.  Plus, there are so many color combinations to create seamless looks.

Swatched clockwise starting from the top (middle shade last)

My only tiny complaint is that I wish the shades had names.  (But that's a minor complaint!)

I don't experience any creasing or fading with these, even after 12 hours!

Grab this while it lasts!  You can purchase HERE for $20.

XOXO

I have an addiction to Urban Decay Ecstacy!

I think I've mentioned several times just how much I love purple eyeshadows and now it's time to show you the shadow that started the addiction!

This was my first individual shadow from Urban Decay!  This gorgeous thing is Urban Decay Ecstasy.

I hate to say it but this beauty has been discontinued.  (Excuse me while I sob.)  Fortunately, you can still pick one up!  I've seen them sitting in stock at Sephora (for $18) and I've seen them on sale HERE for $6.  Definitely snatch one up for $6, y'all!

So pretty!  I feel like my pictures don't even capture the amazing-ness of this product.  Urban Decay describes this as "bright purple with slight pink."

See how the pink shows up at certain angles and especially when it's wet?

Top - dry
Bottom - wet
This is just gorgeous - click on the pictures to really see it.  I like to use a light champagne color all over the lid and then do a dusting of Ecstasy in the crease.
Left - dry
Right - wet
I think I'm going to have to snatch up another one of these before they become completely unavailable. You need this little cutie, especially now that it's only $6!

Do you love purple eyeshadow?  Some other funky color?

Did I just find a new HG product?!

Every makeup lover is on an eternal quest:  to find a Holy Grail product.*  The perfect foundation.  The perfect polish.  The perfect mascara.  The perfect orange lipstick.

Today I decided to drop by my local Sephora for a makeover.  Since I used henna to dye my hair red I've felt that my makeup doesn't quite match.  (More on henna in a later post.)  So, I happened to stumble upon the 1 year anniversary party of my Sephora!  There were professionals from Urban Decay (muh favesies!), Laura Mercier, Bumble and Bumble, Clarisonic, etc.

I got partnered up with Charlie from Laura Mercier and she was super sweet and quiet.  She did a lovely, subdued purple eye on me.  So professional looking!  All products used were Laura Mercier but I didn't get names for them all.  (The brow pencil was Anastasia Beverly Hills.)

I ended up buying the product that she used in the outer V of my eye:  Baked Eye Colour - Wet/Dry in Violet Sky ($22 for 0.06 oz).  I think it's truly lovely as a wash and spectacular when used wet.

But back to the Holy Grail.  As I was navigating through the crowd I came upon selection of Charlotte Ronson products that I had never even noticed before.  There, in a small corner were four Starry Eyes Liquid Eyeshadows ($18 for 0.25 fl oz).  At first I thought, "GAK!  Look at this old, nasty, separated stuff!"

EWW!

Upon closer inspection, I realized that there were pigments suspended in some sort of water combination.  I shook it up and pulled out the doe-footed applicator…and then MAGIC happened.

HOLY WOW!!!!

Now listen, I try not to be hyperbolic when it comes to certain things, including makeup.  But this is a miracle.  A beautiful golden-olive color?  With some kind of moss color creeping in?!  It's like someone melted down a dragon and put it in liquid form.

I am absolutely not exaggerating when I say that my jaw dropped and I started bouncing up and down.  I even started looking all around me thinking, "Where is someone that I can share this magic with?!"

For some reason I was chuckling about "Shake Vigorously."

I swatched the rest of the colors and they were all equally beautiful but I just couldn't drop the money on them without having tested them for wear.  So, I'm going to test out Shiri and make sure that the wear is good.  (I'll report back, I swear!)

I had no idea who Charlotte Ronson is but apparently she is related to Lindsay Lohan's ex, Samantha Ronson.  Whatever.  I don't care who she is or what she does as long as she keeps making this incredibly beautiful and innovative makeup.

I also nabbed samples of two foundations:  MUF #117 HD Foundation ($42 for 1.01 fl oz) and Laura Mercier Creme Silk in Cream Ivory ($42 for 1.18 fl oz).  (Side note:  I got a compliment from a stranger on my "beautiful skin" after I left my makeover wearing the Laura Mercier Creme Silk.  She asked what I did to make it so lovely!)

L - MUF #117; R - Laura Mercier Creme Silk in Cream Ivory

I used 100 of my Beauty Insider points to pick up a 0.34 fl oz sample of Clinique Pore Refining Solutions Correcting Serum.  (I'll let y'all know how it works out!)

All in all, this was a success and I have a feeling that Shiri is about to become an HG product!

XOXO

*(The beauty is that there really isn't such a thing as an HG product…we always keep moving on to bigger and better!  But shhh, don't spoil the fun!)
