Get Shocking Extensions with L'Oreal Telescopic

Please excuse me for being so absent lately!  Like I said before, I was sick as a dog starting on January 1.  What fun it is to start the new year with a big, huge cold!  When you're ill, makeup loses some of its appeal.

Anyway, on to one of my new obsessions!  

I hardly ever purchase drugstore makeup - I seriously only use Maybelline Great Lash.  So I went out on a limb to purchase L'Oreal Telescopic Shocking Extensions mascara on the recommendation of the Muse from Musings of a Muse.

She said that this delivers length and maintains curl while not providing a terrible amount of volume.  I would say that's really accurate!  I wanted something for length so I could pair it up with a volumizing mascara for super drama!

I picked up the waterproof formula but I might just go back for the regular formula, too!

The brush on this is really nice.  L'Oreal claims that there are 200 bristles (not that I've cared to count!) to help grab all your lashes.  I would say you definitely need to curl your lashes for the best results.

I think it's adorable the that tube actually looks like a telescope - so nifty!  I'm so pleased with this mascara - zero flaking, fading, or smudging.

It's definitely not going to give you volume, but it will maintain your curl all day and wing your lashes out to baby-doll like proportions.  My favorite way to wear it?  On top of tarte primer and mascara for truly incredible drama!

On a different note - what have I been up to since dropping off the map for foreverrrrr?  Well, I was off work due to my cold so I managed to watch all the episodes of Sherlock.  So amazing!  Seriously, if you haven't seen it, watch it ASAP!

Of course, watching Sherlock led me to the wonderful world of "Wholock" on Pinterest.  (Doctor Who + Sherlock = Wholock)  Also, there's some very twee Harry Potter / Sherlock mashups like this:

Anyway, pick up this mascara for about $10 in drugstores.  (I would post a link for you but I can't find any sites where this is reasonably priced.)  Also, make sure to watch Sherlock and Doctor Who on Netflix!

My apologies for my hiatus!

Sorry for the short hiatus, y'all.  I feel really guilty about being so spotty with posting lately.  Of course we are all busy during the holidays, but I also managed to get a wicked cold that started on January 1.  I'm just now starting to feel better thanks to my amazzzzzinggggg acupuncturist!  Seriously, that guy is a miracle worker.  Of course, when you're down with a terrible cold, you don't feel much inclined toward beauty products.

Sticks 'n Stones never hurt a manicure!

Happy New Year, everyone!  I hope your 2013 is filled with many happy moments and things that make you smile!

Today I want to show you another polish from Ninja Polish!  This is Cover Band Sticks 'n Stones.

I've been wanting this polish foreverrrr and finally snapped it up as soon as it was restocked.  This is a mix of black and white glitters, which are immensely popular in the indie nail world.

There are various size circles, squares, bars, and hexagons!

I layered this over OPI Kiss Me on My Tulips for my NYE mani!

This is two coats and I think it built up rather nicely.  The bar glitter really makes it but I love the black squares, too!  

The nice thing about this glitter is that it isn't gritty on top.  I used just one coat of top coat and even though it isn't perfect, it's not a gritty mess.

Now, it might have been because I was applying everything in such a hurry, but I found that this shrunk my polish.  The tips especially drew back almost at once.  Next time I will go slower to try to avoid this problem.

Minty, yummy lipgloss from Bath & Body Works

Don't you love after-Christmas sales?!  You know when everything goes on super sale?  Well, I picked up something at Bath & Body Works that I had been eyeing for a bit!

This is the I <3 Twisted Peppermint lip gloss trio.  This contains Twisted Peppermint and two exclusive flavors:  Twisted Peppermint Berry and Twisted Peppermint Cocoa.

This kit comes in an adorable little, round, cardboard box.  It was priced at $18.50, which I thought was quite steep.  Fortunately, it went on sale for 50% off so I snapped it up!

All I can say is YUM!  These scents and flavors are really a delight.  My favorite right now is Twisted Peppermint Cocoa.  I really think these make a great set for the marked-down price of $9.25.

If you're familiar with B&BW Liplicious Lipgloss you know that they give a great shine and can be layered over lipstick for a shiny appearance.

I've swatched them to show that they're completely colorless but they do have a little, tiny bit of iridescent shimmer.  It's so small that you can't feel it - no graininess here!

All in all, I adore this and I'm so glad I caught it!

Seek long-term benefits while concealing dark under eye circles with Physicians Formula

I've only ever used a Physicians Formula powder but today I want to show you this Physicians Formula Youthful Wear Cosmeceutical Youth-Boosting Concealer.

I managed to pick this up for FREE because there was a full rebate attached to it.  Woohoo!  

This concealer promises some lofty things.  Here's what PF's website says:  "High-performance formulas help undo the visible signs of aging, restoring firmness & elasticity and improving skin’s appearance instantly and long-term."

This comes with a liquid concealer in Yellow, a stick of concealer in Light, and a rollerball to blend it all into your skin.

Yellow is supposed to help conceal dark under eye circles.  The formula is dense but creamy and I think it does a nice job of hiding under eye circles.
  

The concealer stick tends to deposit color unevenly which makes it dive right into the small lines under my eyes.  I prefer to use the stick on imperfections but not on under eyes.

I actually prefer to put two or three small dots of the yellow with two small dots of Essence I Love Stage Eyeshadow Eyeshadow Base under my eyes.  Then I gently blend it all in with the rollerball.  Love!

I think this is a wee bit pricey but I sure do love the yellow in this product!  You can find more info HERE, where it's priced for $12.95 but I managed to find mine for $8 and some change.

Zoya Song will have you singing the blues - in a good way!

Today I have a polish that I'm just ridiculously in love with!  Seriously, this was love at the very first brushstroke. 

This beautiful blue is Zoya Song.  I first saw Song on The Crumpet's blog HERE but for some reason I never thought to order it until recently.

This color is awesome because it's not a bright, royal blue but it also isn't navy.  This is just a really nice midnight blue with royal blue shimmer.  It's so subtle but it gives the polish incredible depth.

My nails just look like deep, little pools of water!  I love this polish!

Yesterday I wore a neutral top with gold accents and used this as my "accent color."  I can't wait to try layering Zoya Gilty over this.

There's nothing tempting about this Temptress' Kiss

I've already shown you the L'Oreal and Project Runway collaboration lip glosses that I picked up but today I wanted to share with you the lipstick I grabbed.

This is The Temptress' Kiss and it's a good Fall color (although we're well past that now).  I feel like the stores around me are always so late in putting out product that we're already on to the next season.

This shade is a vampy burgundy/plum color and I've been wanting to add a shade like this to my stash for forever.

Unfortunately, the color isn't as opaque as I'd hoped, as you can see from these swatch photos.  I had to run the bullet over my arm several times to get the opacity you see here:

You may be wondering why I don't have lip swatches...well...I couldn't stand the smell.  Seriously, this smells like burning plastic and chemicals.  When I applied it, I thought I might literally be sick.  I decided to test it anyway but had to remove it after about 45 minutes because I kept gagging at the smell.

I gifted this to my sister because she loves to wear lip colors like this.  I warned her about the smell but she opened it and sniffed it and said it didn't bother her at all.  Weird!  I'm not super sensitive to fragrances but this was just a big no for me.

In the short time that I wore it, I found it to be very drying.  Considering that I had it on for less than an hour and it dried my lips, I'd say that's a pretty bad sign.

Add together the foul smell, poor color payoff, and drying property and this is a dud.  My sister seems to like it so I'm glad it works for someone!
